The U.S. government is reporting that privately‐owned housing starts in March, 2026 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,502,000, which is 10.8% higher than February’s revised number and is also 10.8% higher than one year ago. March’s rate for buildings with five units or more was 446k. Privately‐owned housing units authorized by building permits in March were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,371,000, which is 10.8% below than February’s revised number and is 7.4% lower than one year ago. Authorizations of units in buildings with five units or more were at a rate of 427k in March.
Editor’s note; not sure why 10.8% comes up 3x in this report…it might be a mistake (or just a coincidence)…
