(Updated) We hate seeing these kind of stories but they serve a purpose in that the world is (and can be) a dangerous place. It is a good reminder to always do your due diligence with screening potential tenants (both short and long-term) as well as being aware of the potential dangers of renting your property to strangers. Recently in Cincinnati, Ohio an Airbnb property manager was beaten and shot by people at a party he was attempting to break up. According to WLWT-TV, at least 10 people stayed behind and assaulted him, with one participant shooting the property manager in the back – causing a spinal injury. Reportedly, and thankfully, the man is currently in the hospital and expected to recover.
It would appear, once again, that a few bad apples spoil it for everyone:
“The owner of the property, Chris Hikel, said Jeron Prather had asked to rent the property for a few friends visiting on business.”
“Jeron Prather acknowledges that the party – for his mother’s birthday – was likely in violation of Airbnb rules.”
