Last month we posted an infographic about the number of Airbnb bookings at 2026 World Cup cities. Now comes a recent report from Airbnb that says the 2026 FIFA World Cup was not only their biggest hosting event ever, but it also generated more earnings for hosts than any other event in their history. In fact, tournament-time stays generated hundreds of millions of dollars in total host earnings with the typical host earning almost $3k. Airbnb says Millions of guests from 196 nations checked in to Airbnbs during the World Cup across 16 host cities in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
“The FIFA World Cup brought millions of guests to Airbnb and created real economic opportunities for hosts and local communities across North America. It was incredible to see so many people open their homes and welcome fans from around the world. We’re excited to do it all again for the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year.” Said Juan David Borrero, Global Head of Partnerships for Airbnb.
