The U.S. government is reporting that privately‐owned housing starts in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,520,000, which is 0.7% lower than September’s revised number. However, this figure is 0.4% higher than one year ago. October’s rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 470k. Privately‐owned housing units authorized by building permits in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,650,000, which is 4% higher than September’s revised number. Authorizations of units in buildings with five units or more were at a rate of 528k in October.
