The U.S. government is reporting that privately‐owned housing starts in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,372,000, which is 1.9% higher than September’s revised number but is 4.2% lower than one year ago. October’s rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 382k. Privately‐owned housing units authorized by building permits in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,487,000, which is 1.1% higher than September’s revised number and is 4.4% lower than one year ago. Authorizations of units in buildings with five units or more were at a rate of 469k in October.
