The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics is reporting that the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) was up 1.3% in June, 2022. However, the all items index was up 9.1% for the 12 months ending in June – the largest 12-month increase since November, 1981. The energy index alone (gas prices) increased 41.6% over the last year, the highest since April, 1980 – when Jimmy Carter was President.
